What is the purpose of Let's Talk Pacific Salmon?

Let's Talk Pacific Salmon helps Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) to engage with the public and targeted groups on various PSSI projects. The feedback we receive will be shared with DFO decision makers to help inform project implementation.

Let's Talk Pacific Salmon will not replace targeted engagement with First Nations, Indigenous organizations, other partners, and key stakeholders; however, the platform can be used to support targeted engagement. Additionally, public engagement is not limited to this platform.

What stage is the PSSI in and when will it be complete?

The PSSI was launched through Ministerial announcements on June 8, 2021 and June 29, 2021. Early engagement with First Nations, Indigenous organizations, partners, and key stakeholders began soon after.

The PSSI is a long-term strategy and implementation is anticipated to last for at least 2-3 salmon cycles (10-15 years). PSSI actions over this timeline are expected to stem the decline of priority Pacific salmon populations.
